Borys Lyatoshynsky’s Piano Trios: Historical, Genre-Dramaturgical, and Stylistic Aspects

Abstract

In the history of twentieth-century Ukrainian music, the figure of Borys Lyatoshyns’ky stands as one of the most significant. His life and creative legacy represent an example of a deeply personal and at the same time boldly independent response of a Ukrainian artist-philosopher to the cataclysms of his era. The thematic and conceptual breadth of the Master’s music, the universal nature of his artistic activity, and the innovative quality of his compositional thinking have justly determined his place in the history of national musical culture as a «classic of the twentieth century, a «creator of the modern canon» This is clearly manifested both in his symphonic and chamber works.
